Gauthier, Alvarado & Associates, a Northern Virginia Architectural/Engineering firm, is a multi-disciplined engineering firm in Fairfax, Virginia. We provide Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical engineering for a variety of projects that include commercial office buildings, educational facilities, public agencies, and interior tenant build-outs. GAA is seeking a Structural Engineer with experience in developing construction documents for foundation and framing systems for educational, government, and commercial facilities.  LEED certification is desirable.  The responsibilities of the candidate will include: preparation of studies, structural assessments, design, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration services.  Good communication and writing skills are a must.

We are interested in candidates who are self-motivated, possess a great attitude and who will fit in as a vital member of our firm working closely with our in-house architects, mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineers. The person will be involved in a variety of projects ranging throughout Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. Candidates must be well-organized, clear communicators, and proficient in AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Microsoft Word and Excel. Candidate must have hands-on experience with construction documents, writing specifications, and understanding building codes.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Architectural, Civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.  
• PE required.
• Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in structural design for commercial, educational and public facility projects.
• Experience with design, detailing and analysis of wood, steel and concrete structures.
• Construction observation experience.
• Working knowledge of building codes, gravity and lateral structural systems, and industry design standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD, REVIT Structure, RAM Structure
