This position will be filled at the Fiber Network Administrator I, II or Senior level, contingent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the selected candidate.

JOB PURPOSE: Administer the provisioning, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Passive Optical Network (PON), Ethernet, and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) platforms on a Wide Area Network (WAN) to support a broadband Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network.  The Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network is comprised of routers, switches, computer servers, passive optical network (PON) technology, and an Ethernet network.  

In addition to a competitive starting salary range of $68,000-$80,000 (Fiber Network Administrator I) $82,320 - $102,900 (Fiber Network Administrator II) $96,720 - $120,900 (Fiber Network Administrator Senior) (based on qualifications, skills and abilities), Chelan PUD employees also enjoy outstanding benefits which include the option of a zero cost medical plan (medical, dental and vision for all eligible dependents), short and long-term disability, Washington State Public Employee's Retirement System, Deferred Compensation (with company matching funds up to 5%), 11 holidays and initial personal leave accrual at 21 days per year. 

Fiber Network Administrator I

1. 60%   Service Provisioning:  Learn and with assistance, provide provisioning of services including Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), DS1, Digital Loop Line (DLL), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Radio Frequency (RF) Video.
2. 20%   Basic access network troubleshooting
3. 10%   Retail Service Provider (RSP) Liaison/Communications
4. 5%     Maintain documentation
5. 5%     After hours duties:  Perform after-hours maintenance and respond to after-hours calls and emergencies

Fiber Network Administrator II

% of Time    Job Functions

1. 40%    RSP:  Retail Service Provider (RSP) liaison/communications; may respond to after-hours calls and emergencies and/or perform after-hours maintenance
2. 20%    Troubleshooting:  Intermediate network troubleshooting; assist service providers by performing advanced troubleshooting; Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and identify defective components
3. 15%    Service Provisioning: Solid understanding of and ability to provision all services, including Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), DS1, Digital Loop Line (DLL), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), Radio Frequency (RF) Video and configure basic Ethernet switch
4. 10%     Network Management:  Proactively maintain the network with the use of network management applications; Monitor the performance of the Wide Area Network (WAN) system to meet system performance requirements; create network documentation and drawings
5. 5%   Provide basic strategic contribution on upcoming/future technology advancements
6. 5%   Security:  May establish cyber security protection; perform data backups and disaster recovery operations

Fiber Network Administrator Senior

1. 25%  Network Management:  Manage and maintain Network Management System (NMS); Monitor the performance of the Wide Area Network (WAN) system to meet system performance requirements
2. 20%   Troubleshooting:  Advanced network troubleshooting including core network issues
3. 10%    Network Design; Make network design and configuration change recommendations to management and implement as needed.
4. 10%  Advanced core network provisioning.
5. 5%   Project Management: Lead and manage projects
6. 5%   Train and mentor lower-level fiber network administrators

QUALIFICATIONS: The qualifications listed below are representative of those required, but reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. 

Fiber Network Administrator I, II and Senior Post-Secondary Education:                                                      

No post-secondary education required.  CCNA or NRS certifications preferred, CompTIA - IT Fundamentals or equivalent desired

Fiber Network Administrator I Experience:                                                     

Requires a minimum of two (2) years of network administration experience including LAN switching and Optical Networking, preferably in a multi-user network environment.  Linux and CLI experience preferred.

Fiber Network Administrator II Experience:                                                     

Requires a minimum of five (5) years network administration experience including at least three (3) years of Wide Area Network (WAN) and Optical Networking experience.  Linux, Command Line Interface (CLI), Basic Time Division Multiplexing/Voice Over Internet Protocol (TDM/VOIP) and Passive Optical Network (PON) experience preferred.

Fiber Network Administrator Senior Experience:           

Requires a minimum of eight (8) years of network administration experience including at least six (6) of increasingly responsible Wide Area Networking (WAN), Linux, Command Line Interface (CLI) and Network Security experience.  Gigabit-Passive Optical Networking (GPON) experience preferred.  Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia experience desired.
