Regional Engineer – Great Plains Region (Bismarck, ND)
Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineer. The position ideally will be located in the Bismarck, North Dakota office however, we are open to other locations in North Dakota or South Dakota depending on experience. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana.
Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program, be a registered professional engineer (or have ability to get registration within six months of hire) and a minimum of 4 years of experience in civil engineering design. Applicant will need to obtain registration in assigned states. Desirable qualifications include experience with AutoCAD Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including embankments, pipes, structures, erosion control, construction inspection and project management. Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.
Regional Engineers perform a full range of project planning, surveying, design, drafting, contracting, and construction management on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities will include scoping and proposal development, surveying, drafting, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and construction management. A close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include travel and operating outside of normal business hours independently.
Specific duties include:
Prepare proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with biological staff.
Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
Act as contracting officer ensuring contract compliance and manage project budgets.
Field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Working in remote areas independently. Must be able to operate an ATV when necessary.
Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, work independently, and travel overnight with some extended travel. Working on weekends is not a common occurrence.
