Department: The Honors College and the Biosystems Engineering Department Position Highlights: The Honors College and Biosphere 2, in collaboration with the Biosystems Engineering Department, at the University of Arizona, invites applicants for a career-track faculty (non-tenure eligible) position in the core Honors Interdisciplinary faculty within the Department of Biosystems Engineering. This position will have a particular emphasis on developing courses, unique experiences, and teaching in the expanding Honors College Environmental Grand Challenges (EGC) thematic area. This position will be a joint appointment between the Honors College and Biosystems Engineering with a majority appointment in the Department of Biosystems Engineering. Biosphere 2, the Department of Biosystems Engineering, and the Honors College share in the mission of supporting the generation of knowledge integral to our future earth resilience. This is truly an interdisciplinary endeavor in which the experiential education of our next generation of scientists, engineers, economists, social scientists, and humanists towards this just cause is imperative. Partnering Units: Biosphere 2 is a world-class research, engineering, and education facility contributing to the University of Arizona’s mission and excellence in environmental science knowledge, generation, and dissemination. Biosphere 2 allows for unique science at scales relevant to understanding Earth and its future in the multiple research ecosystems under glass, which provide a unique control and measurement capacity. As a publicly accessible engineering and science facility, Biosphere 2 communicates the importance of STEM online and with 100,000 annual public visitors and thousands of K-12 students and educators. The Biosystems Engineering department is uniquely positioned in both the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Engineering (COE). The department offers two-degree programs: an engineering degree, Biosystems Engineering, and a non-engineering degree, Biosystems Analytics & Technology. The Honors College is home to a diverse group of remarkable students who come from all over the world and study across all majors but have one thing in common – a motivation to use their talents for interdisciplinary problem-solving. Duties & Responsibilities: The EGC thematic area is a collaboration with UArizona Biosphere 2 and other units on campus, as well as with community and global partners. As a faculty member in Biosystems Engineering and the Honors College, the individual selected must have experience and expertise with inquiry and evidence-based instructional practices such as active and collaborative learning, and the integration of research as well as modern approaches to assessment and engaged learning.
