Chair, Engineering and Information Technology

This position reports to the Dean, Technical and Liberal Studies. APPOINTMENT PERIOD: Annual renewable 12-month appointment. RESPONSIBILITES: The Department of Engineering and Information Technology Department Chair has the general responsibility for the leadership, strategic planning, operational management, course scheduling, budgeting oversight, faculty support and evaluation, assessment of student learning, and evaluation/continuing development of the Department. The Chair needs to have thorough knowledge of the manufacturing industry and the future direction of the technology and skills needed for employees. The Chair is expected to be agile and can act quickly within the policies of the College; and nurture a climate of innovation and big ideas in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, autonomy, system architecture, electro-mechanical. The Chair will work collaboratively, generatively and with problem-solving commitments with the Dean and fellow Department Chairs in support of the vision and mission of Division. Overall, the Chair will promote excellence of the Department within the College. In addition, specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requires a Bachelors’ degree with 3-10 year’s working experience in a manufacturing industry with expectation of earning a Masters within three years in discipline or Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field or work experience. A Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field is preferred.
A skilled manufacturer engineering technician or engineer with thorough knowledge of manufacturing technology and skills needed for 21st century along with ability to be agile and innovate in a changing work environment. Current industry certifications (as appropriate) are necessary for the successful candidate. A minimum of three years of industry working experience. Minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience leading change and driving innovation. An appreciation for and understanding of the two-year college mission is a must. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide daily supervision to program faculty, manage resources, and organize activities to maximize the learning experience for students. Ability to make and drive changes across the department. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Familiarity with alternate modes of instruction as well as administrative and instructional software packages is desirable. Must be committed to diversity and inclusivity.
Three year’s college teaching excellence or equivalent is required with two-year college teaching experience preferred. Previous experience fulfilling duties associated with coordination of an academic program or oversight of an academic major is preferred. |
