This position provides the rare opportunity to pursue a career focused on excellence in teaching, curriculum design and other aspects of educational leadership in the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering. This position is specifically focused on experiential learning for our students. We are particularly looking for leadership in the development and implementation of laboratory-based instruction, and optimizing experiential aspects of our design courses, prototyping facilities and other modules that span the breadth of our curriculum. The successful candidate will engage in innovative curriculum design and pedagogy in a vibrant and growing collaborative teaching and learning community. The ideal candidate will teach a range of Biomedical Engineering (BME) subject areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, commensurate with expertise, and focus on providing our students with hands-on skills and experiential education related to BME across molecular and physiological scales. Example areas where these opportunities exist include systems physiology, biomaterials, biological systems and signals, biomechanics, systems and synthetic biology, computational biology, and biological imaging. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other programs and departments and be highly engaged in educational leadership activities including curriculum development, laboratory and design course development and implementation, pedagogical innovation, and other teaching and learning initiatives. The position will also participate in relevant service activities within the University and provide service to the academic profession.
The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering or a related area, experience teaching biomedical engineering or bioengineering at a post-secondary level, with evidence of being able to integrate engineering and biological fundamentals in course development and delivery. Applicants must have demonstrated ability and commitment to teaching, and promise of educational leadership. A Canadian professional engineering (P.Eng.) licence or eligibility to obtain a PEng is a requirement. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
