The Optimization Analyst will work in the Portfolio and Resource Optimization group analyzing and implementing near-term strategies within the NCEMC portfolio. Assists in executing the strategy for the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to meet the Brighter Future goal. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide qualitative and quantitative backed solutions.
Academic and Trade Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is required. Degree in related field such as Engineering, Finance, or Analytics preferred. Experience with Utilities, Energy Services, Demand Response, Trading, or Cooperatives is a plus.
3 to 7 years in Analytics, Energy Trading, or Electric Utility Operations
Gather and analyze data related to NCEMC’s electric portfolio
Execute back casts and study impact of changing fuel mix on portfolio and resource adequacy.
Study and recommend enhancements to near term fuel, transmission, and energy strategies.
Analyze, develop, recommend, and assist in executing near-term natural gas and PJM FTR strategies
Explore and analyze applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence AI to improve execution and precision
Optimize the design and implementation of NCEMC Distributed Energy Resource (DER) portfolio within VPP environment.
Assist in execution and integration of portfolio DER and Demand Response (DR) assets within software solution
Analyze peak load targets and DR strategy
Assist with NCEMC’s Storm Center activities, preparation, and response
Facilitate necessary contract obligations and market commitments for data, testing, and performance
Report on portfolio metrics
Periodic review and validation of peak and load data
Create presentations and reports that clearly communicate research and results to management
Perform other duties as directed
Basic electric utility knowledge and analytical problem-solving strategies required.

Demand Response, Distributed Energy Resource Management System, and Cooperative experience
Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (VBA a plus)
Able to work in normal office conditions
Perform well both individually and within a team
Able to be responsible for a project from start to finish
Strong communications skills with an emphasis on developing presentations and reports
Relationships and Contacts
Work with coworkers across departments and other industry contacts
Normal office conditions with occasional overtime and travel.
