The University of South Dakota’s Beacom School of Business seeks applications for two positions in decision sciences beginning in the 2020-21 academic year. We see an instructor and a visiting assistant professor. The Beacom School of Business is the flagship business school in South Dakota and the region with its programs consistently receiving high national rankings from institutions such as U.S. News and World Report, Princeton Review and others. The successful visiting assistant professor candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate classes in decision sciences, while the instructor will be expected to teach undergraduate classes in decision sciences. An interest in or expertise in operations management, business analytics and business statistics is desired for the visiting assistant professor. The successful candidates are expected to bring a unique and innovative educational experience to students through classroom teaching and mentorship. As such, there is the opportunity for student engagement through mentoring student activities outside the classroom. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes on the main campus in Vermillion, SD, online, or in Sioux Falls, SD, the School’s major off-campus site. Visiting Assistant Professor duties include teaching, engaging in related scholarly research, and service for the Department, profession, and the broader community. Instructor duties include teaching, mentoring, and service for the department, profession, and broader community.
Visiting Assistant Professor Requirements: A Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Analytics, Decision Sciences, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited school is required, although ABDs with successful defense by start date will be considered. Candidates must have a record of or potential for contribution to the scholarship of decision sciences. Other requirements are proficiency in oral and written communication, and enthusiasm for engagement, service, and the public good.
Visiting Assistant Professor Preferred Qualifications: The best applicant will have Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Analytics, Decision Sciences, Statistics, or a related field from an AACSB-International accredited business school. And, an interest or expertise in teaching in decision sciences, with the primary area in operations management, business analytics, or business statistics. Also preferred is a scholarly interest that complements the position’s teaching fields. Candidates with enthusiasm for working with diverse student, staff, and faculty are preferred.
Instructor Requirements: A masters degree in analytics, decision sciences, statistics, computer science, or a closely related field. Candidates must have an interest in teaching in decision sciences, with the primary area in business analytics and/or business statistics. Other requirements are proficiency in oral and written communication, and enthusiasm for working with diverse students, staff, and faculty are preferred.
Instructor Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. or D.B.A. from an AACSB-International accredited business school is preferred, with ABD’s considered. Also preferred is an intellectual interest that complements the position’s teaching fields. Related business experience and/or professional certification are preferred.
