In 2018 the department processed 236 Site Plan Review applications, 93 Planning applications, issued 4,800 building permits, and conducted over 34,000 inspections. Seeking an innovative, responsive professional who can establish effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and promote and enhance customer service and service delivery. Must have a proven track record of effective leadership and management skills. Requires a related BS degree and 8 years of experience in a full service municipal/county agency.

The City of Visalia was founded in 1852, incorporated in 1874 and became a charter city in 1923. Visalia, a full service city, operates under a Council-Manager form of government with a five-member City Council. Council members are elected at-large to four-year overlapping terms and the Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor for a two year term.
