WM Environmental Engineer performs intermediate-level engineering and construction management techniques for landfill design, construction, compliance, and operations. Engineer will develop a strong working knowledge of all aspects of a WM landfill, including but not limited to, environmental protection and permitting, engineering design, construction management, finance and accounting, landfill gas and leachate management, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develops full knowledge and understanding of applicable regulations, permits/licenses, company policies, and operational plans to ensure environmental protection and compliance.
Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a total program or project. Performs work, which includes intermediate problem solving such as resolution or conflicting design requirements, construction material evaluation and selection, and difficult project coordination requirements.
Manages all engineering and construction projects, including all consultants, vendors and contractors involved with the project. Establishes project budgets, tracks spending, reviews and approves invoices, and updates internal capital spending and forecasting.
Fulfills or manages vendor completion of all environmental monitoring or testing, conducts data review, and ensures proper reporting and recordkeeping,
Reviews data and prepares recommendations, summaries, and cost estimates for consideration by senior engineers or managers.
Develops an understanding of financial, accounting, and forecasting processes for landfill design, construction and operation. Prepares and updates life-of-site capital forecasts, and closure and post-closure cost estimates.
Utilizes engineering skill-set to support operations management, evaluate operational efficiency of equipment and systems for various facilities.
Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Writes, and directs others to write technical reports to document engineering analysis and findings.
Conducts feasibility studies for proposed equipment and systems. May assist senior engineer in reviewing design and development plans and/or cost estimates for completing the proposed projects and evaluates engineering proposals and specifications.
Act as a liaison with contractor and vendor representatives to ensure adherence to design specification requirements.
Act as a liaison with local, State and federal regulatory inspectors and permit managers.
Conducts on-site technical visits, performs field construction and operational reviews, and monitors installation and testing.
Develop a strong understanding and dedication to the WM Safety Program; work with Corporate and local safety teams to continue to create an increasingly aware and observant safety conscious culture.
Completes all mandatory training.

Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Engineering
Education Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Construction Engineering.
Experience: 3 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
Preferred experience: Three (3) or more years of environmental regulatory/compliance, project planning and budgeting. Solid Waste Landfill design and construction experience a strong plus.

Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook programs.
Willing and able to work outdoors in rough terrain/hills.
