Fairfax County, a diverse, dynamic, and growing jurisdiction in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, is seeking a highly motivated and qualified transportation manager to lead a team of professionals and technicians engaged in scoping, designing, managing, and coordinating, capital improvement projects, studies, reports, and other activities in the Capital Projects Section. Oversees coordination with VDOT, county agencies, elected officials and community stakeholders. Develops and implements programs and projects to improve traffic and transportation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architecture field; plus five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: A valid driver's license. Possession of a valid Virginia Professional Engineer or Architect license. An individual who possesses a valid Professional Engineer or Architect license in another state will be granted a temporary exemption to this requirement pending the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers & Landscape Architects decision regarding that individual's application for reciprocity. As a professional engineer or registered achitect, signs and seals own work product and/or that of subordinate staff.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience in supervising transportation professionals and managing a capital improvement program. Strong analytical, verbal, and writing skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with VDOT, government officials and the general public. Knowledgeable about accepted standards and best practices in Traffic and Transportation Engineering.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must communicate effectively with others. Employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
