This is entry level work in the field inspection of construction projects. Observes work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications. Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards. Maintains daily report of construction inspection activities. Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into master plans. Inspects equipment operation and material on the job site. Interprets specifications as related to materials and workmanship. Assumes responsibility of administering portions of the contract, which includes preparing change orders and pay requests. Reads and interprets plans, specification, correspondence and related construction documents. Performs emergency inspections to resolve difficult problems. Explains and interprets construction codes to owners, contractors, design professionals and the general public. Receives supervision from senior-level Construction Services staff. Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned Regular Attendance and Punctuality is an essential requirement of the job.
A valid Florida Driver’s license prior to hiring and ability to be added to company vehicle insurance policy.

Basic knowledge of the materials, methods, principles and practices used in the construction trade. Basic knowledge of the stages in construction when possible defects and violations may be observed and corrected. Basic knowledge of the codes and regulations governing building construction; electrical or plumbing installation, alteration and repair. Basic knowledge of the codes and regulations governing environmental protection related to building construction. Ability to learn to read and interpret construction plans/specifications and to recognize deviations from such plans in the construction process. Ability to learn to explain, interpret and enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially. Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
