Electric Materials is currently seeking a full-time metallurgist. Located in North East, PA (approximately 25 miles east of Erie, PA) Electric Materials is a leading manufacturer of copper and copper alloy products. Industries served include, but are not limited to, power generation, power distribution, transit, etc.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified candidate to work for a company with a wide variety of in-house manufacturing processes that include: 1) Semi-continuous casting, 2) foundry (sand casting), 3) centrifugal casting, 4) permanent mold casting, 5) extrusion, 6) forging, 7) cold rolling and drawing operations, 8) silver and tin plating, 9) commutator and AC rotor assembly, and 10) machining operations. Having all these processes in-house gives Electric Materials a competitive advantage in lead times and variety of products that can be manufactured.
The metallurgist will have the opportunity to work with several copper based alloys, including: 1) pure copper, 2) silver-bearing copper, 3) brass, 4) bronze (aluminum, silicon, nickel-silicon), 5) chromium-copper, and 6) coppers containing phosphorus or sulfur. Electric Materials is always looking to expand its manufacturing capabilities so there is potential to add even more alloy groups.
The primary duties of the metallurgist would focus on the semi-continuous casting and foundry operations as well as heat treating operations for bronzes and chromium-copper alloys. However, the metallurgist may assist with any issues that may arise in any other department so there is a great opportunity to learn and gain experiences outside of the candidates primary field of expertise. In addition, the metallurgist is expected to conduct research either for the improvement of current processes or to introduce new processes to the company. Occasional travel to training and academic seminars is required.
Preferred 1-2 years experience in a Process Engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering role (internships and co-ops are acceptable experience)
Familiarity with casting solidification software such as SOLIDCast or MAGMA
Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
