SUPERVISING OR CONSULTING ENGINEER - A DIVISION MANAGER OPENING
The City of Austin Transportation Department is seeking to fill a Supervising or Consulting Engineer to be the Division Manager for the Right-of-Way (ROW) Management Division. This position oversees a team of three supervisors, 24 employees, and 8 temporary employees and manages an annual budget of $3 million. The Division Manager is responsible for the permitting of ROW use, utility coordination, review and approval of construction traffic control plans, inspecting construction traffic control and enforcing ROW Code requirements. The position also oversees the continued implementation and improvement of enterprise software projects to streamline permitting and other review processes. This division works closely with developers, engineers, and internal and external construction teams to maintain safety and minimize the impact on the traveling public.
The ideal Division Manager brings a program management background and prior experience working for a highly progressive transportation organization. This candidate is a professional engineer that guides staff in reviewing construction traffic control plans; has a general understanding of ROW permitting or similar processes; experience with construction practices within the ROW; and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams working in the ROW.
The Director of Transportation seeks a professional engineer with supervisory experience that meets the following qualifications:
An innovative leader with demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership, to “see the big picture”, presents a collaborative personality with exceptional negotiation skills and strong presentation skills with the ability to convey complex information to elected officials, boards and commissions and stakeholders.
This experienced leader will bring expertise in leading organizational change, developing and mentoring staff, fostering creative problem-solving and accountability and in evaluating departmental structure, staffing, and operations, with a desire to maintain and enhance a highly-responsive, creative, high-morale workforce.
Bring experience in budget development, monitoring, forecasting, and reporting, developing and managing performance metrics.Position requires graduation from an accredited four year college/university with major coursework in engineering plus 8 years of experience acquired before or after licensing as a professional Engineer. Requires a License: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas
